Are magnets safe for a fish tank or reef? - Plastic coated neodymium magnets are completely waterproof, can be used in a fish tank or aquarium and are considered to be reef safe. Nickel plated neodymium magnets can corrode when exposed to water. A plastic coated magnet is also softer and will not scratch aquarium glass.

Can I clean my fish tank with magnets? - Yes, fish tank cleaning magnets are very popular and you can make your own very cheaply. One thing to be careful of if the thickness of the glass.
